I have TWO teeth!

Well here it is, he's a two tooth man now! He's eating home made food, mostly because they don't offer much for baby food here on the Island. Favorite food is sweet potatoe, with ANYTHING. So thats how I get him to eat his veggies. And today he had his first piece of whole wheat bread and loved it, I was shocked.

Here is our little goof screaming his head off.
My men, oh so serious, watching tv together.

For Auntie Steph

This is for Auntie Steph as she asked for us to make a video. Mekhi has started to crawl, usually when he wants to get somewhere to stand up. I realized after the video that as he gets closer to me the poor kid goes cross eyes...Kellon's concerned that Mekhi will be cross eyed forever haha.

What a Day!

Around 10:30am myself and Kellon were watching a movie on t.v. and Mekhi was sleeping in my lap, we were actually just discussing going grocery shopping in about 15 minutes time. All of a sudden I heard one gun shot, I said "Kell, thats a gun shot" and he was like "not necessarily". Then when the second gun shot rang out we both stood up and looked out our veranda door window. What we found across the road was a group of cops, and a cop van. The police were in uniform and plain clothes and they were firing shots in one direction, we couldn't see what they were shooting. Then no more shots, the police van went tearing down the road and a group of men scattering in different directions. I was freaking out and Kellon was checking all doors were locked, then we heard two more shots fired but this time in the bushes closer to our house!!!
At this point I was debating climbing into the closet with Mekhi, closing the door and praying for the best. Instead I calmly put Mekhi down in his play pen to sleep, covered it up with blankets so no one could see him and me and Kellon watched from the window for more action.
When we heard no more and saw no more action we locked the door and went on top of the roof of the apartment building to see if we could get any more information. From the roof we saw two police men in plain clothes walking with their guns pulled out. They asked Kellon if we saw anyone, he said no and they said to get inside. So inside we went, stairing out the windows at police in plain clothes and in army gear with guns pulled walking up and down our road. I'm not going to lie, at this point I did say to Kellon "We came to Grenada why??".
About an hour after the action, and knowing that Kellon was going to have to leave for work, I begged him to go down the hill and talk to our neighbour who was outisde to find out the details on whats happening. So after telling me I had better plan his funeral (to which point I asked if he would like pink roses for his casket), he made his way, chest puffed out like a big man, down the hill.
My knight in shining armor returned with all the details. It turned out that this morning, being a Sunday, 4 men decided to try and rob a bank that is found over the hill from our place. (Repeat...on a Sunday, when the bank is closed). Upon being found the four men ran through the bushes over the hill, the police chased them to our neighbourhood and thats when shots began firing. Aparently the police caught 2 men however the other 2 were still in the bushes around our neighbourhood. The police had the bushes surrounded so they believed the men were still in there and thats why they were patroling so heavily.
Now it is 8:15pm and I have no more news, as far as I know there are still two attempted bank robbers running through the bushes in my neighbourhood. The only thing I have to say is STAY AWAY FROM MY PAPAYA TREE! Another day in the life.

7 Months

Mekhi will be 7 months old tomorrow and we have now been in Grenada for a month and a half. Just a few pics of our recent events, I don't have Mekhi's measurements because we don't have a scale, but he's heavy haha. He now has two teeth, both bottom ones and he's an absolute ham, whenever we take him into town he stares down women on the bus or in stores until they look at him then he gives them a big two tooth grin and tooks away. Yeah ladies man in the making.
Above is Mekhi eating his first baby cookie, god they are messy!
He absolutely loves starfruit.

We went down to the beach one morning and saw the local fisherman pulling in nets, it was pretty darn cool and then once the fish were out of the net they pulled out a scale and the fish were bought right there by peeps standing by, it was amazing. This fish went first.

Kellon and Mekhi watching the little fish being taken out of the net.
I've been meaning to get this on video, when Kellon brushes his teeth he brings Mekhi with him. Mekhi loves to participate...just watch.

My first tooth and bathing in the sun!

Well I was taking a picture of Mekhi in his Santa Bib that was sent from his Auntie Heidi in Autralia, came a little late but Mekhi loved it. Just noticed as I looked at the photo that I got his first tooth in the picture! I just realized that on the blog you can barely see it, so look on the bottom, right side looking at the photo.

Now today we finally bought a nice baby bath for Mekhi, he's been bathing in buckets or in the sink. But today he had his first fun bath time on the veranda in Grenada. He had so much fun.

Update on the Papaya

Yet another update from Kellon on life in Grenada, specifially, follow up on the Papaya!

We went to St. Davids, about 45 minute bus ride from where we live, to visit Kellon's sister, niece, nephew and brother. The kids had so much fun and Mekhi was so excited to see kids, he just screamed at them with big smiles on his face.

Yet another day on the beach, every time we go poor Mekhi ends up so exhausted and has a nap on the beach, what a life huh?

And just to prove Mekhi has found his Grenadian roots, he had to bust a move on the beach.

Mekhi in his Walker and a Video for Thomas

Well Thomas had a specific request to ask of Kellon (aka Wycleff as given by Thomas). Thomas has asked that Kellon make video's showing the family around Grenada. I asked what he meant and specifically he wanted firstly a video of our papayas, how we pick them and how we eat them. Although I thought it was a strange request I promised I would, so here is the first of Kellon's Grenada.

Now for Christmas Mekhi received from Granny/Me and Kellon a walker. He loves it and it seems we now have learned how quickly he can get to grab everything now. I was able to capture him in it and thought I would show off the noise level of my baby boy.

6 Months!

Well Mekhi is now 6 months old and there is no holding him back, he wants to move so badly. As you can see by the video, that is how he's getting around right now. Which makes is pretty hard because our furniture has sharp corners, gonna have to pad that, and the floor is tile, yeah he'll learn after the first few bumps i'm sure haha. Can't tell you as yet weight or height but sometime in the next few weeks we are going to take Mekhi in for a general check up with a family doctor here, just to introduce them really and find out how he's growing. He is becoming such a character, when walking in town in the stroller he won't smile at anyone, but if I pick him up, well then he'll smile at everyone, so brave from his Mum's arms haha. He loves the papaya tree's leaves, would watch them all day, and the white butterflies that flutter outside our door are his friends. Anyways thats an update on Mekhi, his exzema is clearing up, and his chest cold is slowly going away as well. Thanks to a nurse friend on one of the Princess Ships yesterday, we went for a visit and she checked him out just to make sure the cold was ok, and yup, just normal cold.

We're Connected!

Well not too bad at all, two weeks in Grenada and we have a fully furnished apartment, house phone, cable, internet, and I have a local cell phone as well. Goodness we sure have been busy!

Lets see, our flights to Grenada went really well, Mekhi slept the entire way from Winnipeg to Minneapolis, then we played in the airport and he slept for about half the flight from Minneapolis to Miami. Once we arrived in Miami we had to re-check in with American Airlines (luckily didn’t have to collect luggage though) and get to the gate. Once there it was about time to board, we got on, all looked well until we got an announcement saying there was something wrong with the plane and we all had to get off, I had just gotten Mekhi to sleep  So had to wake him up, get all our stuff again, and go back to the terminal, tried to go and get something to drink then an announcement was made for all Grenada passengers to return to the gate, so we went back, only to be told “wait” cause there is now a medical emergency onboard and we all have to stay put, well Mekhi is now feeling a bit fussy, we sat down and played, calling Kellon to advise him of our delays. Anyways finally we got on, took off, Mekhi slept from take off until landing (thank you!) and we finally got to Grenada by 12:30am, out of the airport by 1:30am.

Anyways, since arrival poor Mekhi developped a heat rash all over his body, runny nose and eyes when outside which we thought were allergies, but then lead to a cold which he now has and a cough that makes him have a hard time breathing. So its been a little bit rough getting him accustom to Grenada. But together me and Kellon are trying to make everything as easy as possible for him.

So the pictures are of our two weeks here, I don’t think they need much explanation.

Above is the first ripe papaya off our papaya tree

First day at the beach!

Arrived Safely

This is Megan's mum, Susan.

Megan and Mekhi arrived safely in Grenada at 1:30 a.m. (Grenada time). There were many delays on the trip but Mekhi travelled wonderfully. Megan is tired but both she and Kellon are happy.

I'm sure she'll blog as soon as she can.

We Have a Home!

Finally, the Carter/Cain family has a home. Kellon accepted an apartment this afternoon. I of course only have a description but I will pass on as I have been told. It is a 1 Bedroom apartment with an open concept kitchen, dining and living room. It has one bathroom (unfortunately no tub :( ) and aparently the bedroom is very big so we plan on sectioning a part off for Mekhi's sleeping space. It comes fully furnished and all bills included minus cable. It has a veranda on the front and is quite spacious. We had wanted a two bedroom but the two bedrooms Kellon looked at were not acceptable. The apartment is in the Grand Anse area, which is the touristy area, right by Grand Anse Beach. Its about 20 minute walk from the beach, grocery store and laundrymat (walking without a stroller so for me and Mekhi a bit longer). Now we do plan on doing laundry by hand as that is whats done there so Kellon says he'll teach me, oh goodness, I don't want to hear anyone complain about laundry day here haha. Kellon will be meeting with the landlady on Monday to settle contract details and accept the keys, as is his skeptical nature, he doesn't believe it until the keys are in his hand, me i'm a dreamer so i'm on cloud 9. The apartment is ours for 2 months as a trial period and as long as all bills are paid up then the contract is extended. That works well for us in case we find ourselves needing to move to a less expensive place, or even to a bigger or nicer place.
All last minute details are being taken care of, Kellon is doing his first grocery shop for "baby stuff" to have in the apartment and is nervous he will get the wrong stuff heee hee. Here, i'm stressing over lack of luggage space and weight of luggage. Guess thats the way it is when always packing.
We are hoping to have Internet within the first month of getting to Grenada and then can continue with blogging and MSN as long distance is way too expensive, after all, webcam moments are super fun anyways.
This just may be the last post until we get settled, so I wish everyone lots of fun and love during the holiday seasons and we'll talk to you all soon.

5 Months!

5 Months old now and just getting bigger. Mekhi was weighed in today and is 17pounds and 11 ounzes and 26.5 inches long. Pretty sure he's gonna be like 6 feet in a few months haha. We've had a very busy weekend, Auntie Brandee came to town and she kept Mekhi on his toes. This made for many late nights and early mornings for Mekhi, I think he's going to sleep like a "baby" now. We had a photo shoot with Auntie Brandee at the Kenora Airport which for those of you who have never been there, probably these photos show the entire airport ;)

So for the next two weeks its time to pack up, sending a few boxes ahead to Grenada and then figuring out how to pack the rest of our life in two suitcases! Kellon will be disembarking the ship tomorrow and returning to Grenada to get us an apartment and start job hunting. No rest for the wicked hee hee.

Passport has Arrived!

Just a short update. Finally all the hard work, bumpy roads, hoops to jump through have lead us to a happy outcome. Mekhi's passport arrived today!!!!! Big sigh of relief as now we have nothing more holding us back from our departure date of the 4th of December! Guess Christmas will be a sunny one.

Mekhi vs Winnie the Pooh

Today Mekhi met his very first Winnie the Pooh. Once we got home they had their first real encounter, took Mekhi some time to warm up to him as he wasn't trusting right away. But by the end, they became friends. Not without a rumble in the middle. Sorry the rumble is on video which won't load, will come later
