Florence

Ahhhhh Florence. You see the tower picture. Yup I climbed that all 418 steps of it. And they are stone steps, extremely steep and narrow passageway all the way to the very top. I've also included the pic from the top. Man was that hard work but totally worth it when we got up there. We also saw the copy of the Statue David. I didn't go in to see the original as I really didn't feel like standing in line for 4 hours to get to him!!!! Seriously, he's just stone!

Rome!

When in Rome! We spent the ENTIRE day wondering around Rome. We went to the Vatican, Trevi Fountain and the Coliseum as well as many other amazing sights.

Cadiz

Welcome to Cadiz! Had a lovely day practicing my basic Spanish and wondering the lovely streets. Its a beautiful City!

Barcelona!

Spent the day in Barcelona. What a beautiful City. We went to Los Rambas and saw the monuments, the street performers, the pick pocketers and had a great meal.

Update

Greetings from the Middle of the Ocean!

Well we are almost finished our crossing. Tomorrow we arrive in Southampton, England. I absolutely can't wait to get off the ship. We did have a break in the sea days, we made it into Ponta Delgada, Portugal. I didn't have any time off, however I did weazel my way into escorting passengers back onto the transit buses to the ship and got to work outside. It was fabulous. We also ran into the town quickly before we had to re-embark and got whistled at in ten million different ways (of course I don't know what they were saying as it was in Portuguese.

We only had one majorly ruff day at sea. It was insane, everything had to be bolted down and all our liquor bottles fell onto the floor of the cabin, thank God for carpet!!!! The ship was rolling from side to side and all you could see is horizon...ocean...horizon...ocean. It was almost scary.

Above is an example of what we have been doing with our Sea days...here we were celebrating ANZAC Day! It is a national holiday for Australia and New Zealand. Its like our Remembrance Day except they celebrate instead of mourn.

Alright, I guess the next pics I send should be something from Europe! I am going to Rome on the 13th so I will send some pics of that.

Love you all.

Dear Family

O.k. so after all the "HATE MAIL" I am getting slightly upset about the hatred!

Now please....don't hate me because I am in the middle of the ATLANTIC OCEAN, I can't see any land, nothing, no birds, no outside life. I am encased in a moving hotel, where I cannot escape! I feel like the walls are closing in on me AND now my family is jealous of this???????

Seriously guys, you don't want to be where I am at the moment, I feel like i'm climbing the walls...HELP ME!

Pic Updates

O.k. everyone...so my Caribbean season is over. I am currently in the Middle of the Atlantic Ocean, in the middle of 7 sea days with Ponta Delgada, Portugal splitting them up after 4 sea days. We are going ahead an hour every night for 5 nights in a row. But on May 6th, I will be in Southampton, England! My last week in the Caribbean was bitter sweet. I truly love these Islands. My pics are a locals beach in Antigua, myself and friends on a Catamaran Tour in Antigua, full day, around the Island, going to secluded beach AND on the way back our catamaran ran into a whole school of dolpins that came over and started playing with the boat! It was the most amazing thing I've ever seen. The last pic is myself and my friend Clarissa from New Zealand in Grand Cayman at this cool restaurant. You dine on the pier hanging over the water, and if you get hot, you climb down the ladder into the ocean, go and swim, climb back up and eat! Talk about all the greatest worlds combined into one.

So this is the end of the Caribbean for this season, on comes the Med, I can't wait. Bring on Rome!

Hope to have pics once we get our feet back on land!!!!

Prayers for the Star Princess

Hello Guys,

Well I have already contacted Mum and Dad to give them the news that I am o.k. (as good old CNN did not announce WHICH Princess Ship) But I would like to ask the rest of you for some help. Three days ago, our sister ship the Star Princess (the ship I was supposed to join before I picked the Sea Princess) caught on fire. It has been all over the news (CNN) and we've only had very limited information and no news from our friends onboard until now. Three decks worth of cabins have been burnt, 11 injured passengers and 1 died of a heart attack. The crew kept passengers in their muster stations (emergency rooms) for 7 hours while the fire continued to burn and the fire fighting team faught to put it out. After that the crew worked for 20 hours straight to try and fix damage and assist passengers wherever they could. They are currently in dry dock to try and repair what is possible and to see if the Star can continue the rest of the season.

This is obviously a big awakening to all on ships as this could have happened to any of us, I am counting my lucky stars that I did not go to that ship, that I chose the Sea (thank you Susan). So guys...if I can please have you all say a prayer or if you don't pray just have in your thoughts my friends on the Star Princess who have not only come out alive, but saved passenger's lives and just avoided "Abandon Ship" by pure luck, I know they would appreciate it.

Lets all be thankful for our blessings and remember how precious life really is.

Sorry to be so preachy but I just find this really hard to grasp.

Love you all

St. Vincent

Spent the day lounging on the Beach in St. Vincent. It was a local beach so we didn't have to deal with passengers we just swam in the ocean and layed in the sun. I love the locals of these Islands, so cool and free. I mean they come along and chat with you, not because its polite but because they actually have something to say, they actually want to meet you. Hope everyone is doing well!

Playing Like a Child

In St. Kitts our ship Football team arranged to play against the St. Kitts semi-pro team. When we arrived at the field we found the school children playing and they LOVED us! They all wanted pictures taken and wanted to have all the attention. It was so much fun, i'm sure my Dad would have been in heaven.

Indian Diner

Barbados...11:00pm sail, so we all decided that it would be great to go out for an Indian Diner with a few beer on the side. The Restaurant was called Zafran and it was amazingly beautiful. Totally well decorated and the food...oh my God...best food i've had in a long time. Although I will say that my mouth was on fire like never before. The above pic is myself, Shivram (India), Budda (Thailand) and my cabin mate Maria (Portugal).

Tom, don't worry about Shivram...he is like a brother to me. Seriously, I've never had a guy treat me like you do until I met Shivram. He picks on me daily and any guy who shows any interest, well Shivram demands to meet him. So you should feel good about that.

Emerald Pool

Another day in the Sun. A group of us went to Emerald Pool in Dominica today, it was a 45 minute van ride up the mountain, with a stop at a fruit stand where you ate all the fresh fruit you wanted and pay nothing, just leave a $1.00 tip. We gorged on Bananas, Pineapples, Grapefruit, Sugar Cane, Coconut and some wierd thing that you suck on??? (Don't get any ideas guys, this was a "clean" day). Then we continued our way up the mountain and then hiked to the pools, it was soooooooo cool. The water felt like Lake of the Woods in the summer, refreshingly cool and it wasn't really deep so we could goof around. We hiked the rest of the way to the lookout points and then went back to the ship. Totally a great day, really sunny and warm. Hope you're all doing well. Hilary...how's the Yukon??? Hope you haven't frozen to death, i'll send you some rays of sunshine!!!

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!

Valentines Party on the Sea. Spent a lovely day on the beach, and then spent the night partying with friends. What more can you ask for. Below is a picture of the beach in Tortola. We went for lunch there and a quick tan before I caught the cab ride (45 minutes) back up and down the mountain to the ship. Seriously, make it with 1 minute to spare to take the VIPs up for their bridge visit. God that would have looked bad if I was late?!?! Love you all...happy love day...cherish the ones close to you.

Curacao

Spent the day shopping in Curacao today. It was the coolest little Island. Every house was painted a different colour, and all bright. The history is that when Curacao was being built up the Governor insisted that everyone's house be painted something other then white, and must be re-painted every so often (can't remember how long he has proclaimed). So everyone followed this and later on in life, after this man moved on from his position as Governor they found out that he at his point of power owned the only paint shop in Curacao!!!! Greedy bugger! I had a great Cappacino, with friends, sitting by the waterfront and baking in the sun. See a pattern here???

Answers for Dad

Dad, to answer your question, yes that is a gun....no he is not "just" happy to see me:) Actually it was a real machine gun and the other guy had a knife holstered to his pack. I guess with the alarming rate of 14 murders in Trinidad for the month of January alone and the "gorillas" in the Trinidad rainforests they now need at minimum two armed police officers with any group of hikers!!! YIKES! But they were super cool and I thoroughly enjoyed myself...as i'm sure you can see;)

Trinidad - Maracas Falls Hike

Today I had a great day. I went on a hike to Maracas Falls in Trinidad. It was about an hour hike and because it was raining it was hard, really slippery. But totally worth it when we got to the top. You can't really understand how beautiful it was by picture, but honestly it was wonderful. Also...I am attaching a picture of myself with the two ARMED police officers who had to come along on the hike. Because of the way Trinidad is at the moment, any hike needs to have police officers (armed) with the hike in case something happens. They were super cool guys and I thought Dad you might like the picture! ha ha ha enjoy!

St. Maarten

O.k. so another picture. This was in St. Maarten this cruise. I got off the ship early morning so no one was on the beach and me and a friend went for Breakfast. It was so beautiful and quiet. We walked along the beach for a while and loved the space before the frenzy of shopping tourists arrived.

Now as I begin to take over Hotel Secretary position part of my duties is taking the VIPs to the bridge for visits and tours. Last night I took a group of 4 VIPs to the bridge for sail-a-way from St. Kitts. I have never been in the Bridge for sailaway and let me just tell you that it was soooooo beautiful. The sun was setting, you got the best view of the Island AND just as we were turning, we saw a rainbow, now just one side of it, we saw the full arc, up and down. It was stunning. So thats my "awe inspiring moment" for this installation of "Oh Such a Hard Life aboard a Cruise Chip" ha ha ha.
