Sophie

So for those of you who have not heard about Sophie, I will educate you. When I got to Kenora and started going to Baby Group I discovered that ALL of the babies had a "Sophie". Sophie is a rubber girafe that squeeks when you squeeze her. I couldn't help but laugh at all of these mothers that paid $20.00 for what seemed to be no more then a dog's chew toy.

Well today I went to visit another Mother and her baby girl and noticed yet again, another mother had fallen to the ploye of the Sophie, there sat the girafe on the floor. She noticed me eyeing up Sophie and said "do you have one yet...because if you don't they have finally gotten them at the Baby Store in town". (This mother as well as others had ordered there's online and paid the $20.00 as well as the shipping fee). I giggled and said "honestly, I just don't see the appeal". Well she sang the praises of Sophie up and down, so much that I must say, I fell for it and thought, why not...I must have been crazy. So off to the baby store went me and Mekhi (Mekhi and I for Granny) to pick up our $20.00 chew toy. Sophie came in a beige box, with a lovely certificate and an explanation of how Sophie benefits infants, written in 7 different languages. I laughed at myself as I got to the counter to pay and the lady there asked why I was laughing. I said "i've fallen for it haven't I"...she just laughed as well ad said "I can't believe i'm selling a $20.00 chew toy either, but you'll see" and gave me a knowing smile.

Well we came home and I immediately took Sophie out of her box, yup she felt like a dog's chew toy, I even chewed on her ears, yup just like a chew toy for the dogs. Anyways Mekhi woke up, I handed him Sophie, made the introductions, and all of a sudden both of his hands were wrapped around Sophie and her head was in his mouth!!!! I promise you, Mekhi who hadn't eaten for about 4 hours, did not put down Sophie until I pried it from his hands. So...apparently all of the laughs I had at the other mother's expense should have been at myself. Sophie is a hit, her and Mekhi are the best of friends and I RECOMMEND SOPHIE to any mother of any child, $20.00 well spent, evidence below.

I wish I could have seen you chewing on Sophie.

Mekhi certainly looks impressed.

That's so weird that all the kids love it ! What is it, the shape is easy to hold? The colours are food-like? They've infused it with catnip?? LOL

Sophie has such lovely rosy cheeks (natural giraffe colouring I am sure). When we were kids we had a carrot that was pretty much our Sophie. Yup - it looked like a dogs chew toy too

That's funny, you're right it does look like a dogs squeeky toy. But $20.00 for it. That's crazy. Somebody had a clever idea and is now a very wealthy person.
